PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Technology and the Network Engineer, maintain district computer network. Resolve network problems and ensure high levels of security for users, data, and equipment of the district.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or management information systems (preferred), or equivalent experience in network administration

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of Microsoft computer networks, network hardware, software applications, and various releases of Windows

Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems

Excellent communication skills

Proficiency with E-mail management, user account management, and advanced file systems

Proficiency with system management software, Windows networks, account management and advanced file systems

Knowledge of camera security hardware and software applications

 

Experience:

Three years of experience maintaining Microsoft networks preferred.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Assist Network Engineer in resolving network hardware and software problems.
  2. Ensure network security by maintaining network accounts and E-mails.
  3. Maintain working system logs.
  4. Enforce district technology standards, procedures, and licensing.
  5. Maintain storage backups of district software and user directories.
  6. Maintain district anti-virus software and updates.
  7. Configure and maintain switches, routers, and other network equipment.
  8. Maintains documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
  1. Configure and maintain the district’s mobile device management platform.
  1. Ensures network connectivity of all servers, workstations, VoIP equipment, WAN, wireless networks and other network appliances.
  2. Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  3. Administers all network equipment upgrades according to published district maintenance windows.
  4. Install and maintain district security camera network. Monitor upgrades of security camera hardware and software.
  5. Serve as liaison to hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support.
  6. Liaises with and provides training and support to help desk support staff on network issues.
  7. Develop workflow processes, goals, and procedures to continually improve the quality of customer and technical support provided.
  8. Supervise technology specialists and manage their time and absences.
  9. Install and maintain district Windows network operating systems.
  10. Develop and maintain district software licenses.
  11. Create push agents for district standard software.
  12. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, E-Rate regulations, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
  13. Maintain confidentiality of information.
  1. Provide technology support to all district users of technology that is second to none.
  2. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  3. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships among all levels of the department.
  4. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisor to ensure the goals of the department/district are met.
  5. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communications (i.e. verbal, written, and email).
  6. Able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment, multi-task to accomplish team goals and adapt to changes in procedures and priorities.
  7. Exercises initiatives to progressively further the districts mission.
  8. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  9. May work prolonged or irregular hours.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned

 

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Network Technician, Lead Technician, and District Technology Specialists

 

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

 

Network file servers, personal computers, tablets, various mobile devices, printers, routers, switches, laptops, and wireless access points.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands:

Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); detect, analyze, and resolve problems; and maintain emotional control under stress.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computers; lifting heavy equipment; stooping, bending, and kneeling. Works on-call and after hours. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually and team lift heavier items.
