PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and operations for the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP). Coordinate assigned student activities and services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree
Valid Texas mid-management certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Thorough understanding of school administrative operations
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years experience as classroom teacher
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
2. Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.
3. Facilitate the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
4. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
5. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
6 Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
7. Assist principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
8. Develop and implement a positive behavior support system for students placed in DAEP.
9. Maintain accurate records for students placed in DAEP.
10. Conduct reviews of students placed in DAEP every six weeks.
11. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff; serve as a
primary appraiser in the Texas Teacher Appraisal System.
12. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
13. Supervise and evaluate behavior interventionists.
14. Supervise operations in the absence of the principal
15. Assist in the administration of the daily organization of the school including class
scheduling, and teacher assignments.
16. Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
17. Work with principal in compiling annual budget requests based upon documented
program needs.
18. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conduct inventories; maintain
records; and verify receipts for such material.
19. Cooperate in the conducting of routine drug searches, safety inspections, and
safety drill practice activities.
20. Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of
Education rule, and local board policy.
21. Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students during non-instructional
periods.
22. Handle student discipline referrals, manage student behavior, and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, and Individual Education Plans.
23. Provide input to develop the Student Code of Conduct that results in positive
student behavior.
24. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is
appropriate and equitable.
25. Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and
student issues.

Frequent districtwide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
